Autumn entered AWOL in 2007 through the Theater and Performing Arts program. A bit of a shy poet at first, the changes in Autumn since coming to AWOL have been amazing. She not only became much more confident, she has also assumed the role of mentor and leader to the younger children in the program. Autumn works, goes to school and participates in a church dance troupe all while keeping her grades up and keeping a positive attitude about life. Autumn’s parents are very supportive of her decision to be in AWOL and are very proud of her participation in not one, not two, but three AWOL programs. Autumn has discovered everything, from film making to podcasting to photography, and every day she is thirsty to learn and do more. Autumn says that what she most likes about AWOL is that it is like a “second family” to her, and a place to spend her free time doing something creative and positive.
