Rico

Initially very shy, despite being the biggest kid in the class, Rico has become outspoken on the microphone. He arrived at AWOL dissatisfied with a lot of the music he was hearing on television and radio, but didn’t know where to look for something new. AWOL has shown Rico that being different is something he should embrace. After joining PROJECTS 4 and participating in several weeks of writing workshops and hip hop history lessons, he has discovered a newfound sense of pride and a voice that is truly his own, Aware of the influence he can have on others, Rico has started giving more thought to the message behind his music.  Reflecting on some of his previously recorded material, he cringed a bit at his old content saying, “Yeah…I gotta clean that up a little bit”, a sign of true change.
